Attention all Ontario Bus Drivers and King Charters affiliates! Effective today, September 1, 2023, Ontario has officially rolled out changes to the air brake renewal process. The new air brake learning module has been introduced, replacing the old air brake knowledge test for driver’s licence renewals. This change aims to make the renewal process quicker and more efficient. Here’s what you need to know:

How the Renewal Process Has Changed:

From today onward, anyone renewing their driver’s licence must complete the new airbrake learning module online before heading to a DriveTest centre. If you haven’t completed the module, you’ll have to return to the DriveTest centre after doing so, or you may request to complete the learning module onsite. Please note that onsite completion is dependent on the DriveTest centre’s availability in terms of space and time.

Steps to Complete the New Learning Module:

  1. 24/7 Availability: The learning module can be accessed online at any time and from any device—be it a phone, tablet, or computer. The module takes approximately 30 minutes to complete.
  2. Starting the Module:
  3. Account Creation and Registration:
    • Create an account on the learning module website.
    • Register your name exactly as it appears on your driver’s licence.
    • Upload a picture of your driver’s licence and a photo of yourself for identity verification.
  4. Certificate of Completion: After completing the module, download or print the Certificate of Completion. Take this certificate, along with your driver’s licence, to a DriveTest centre or your Driver Certification Program organization for the renewal process.

Additional Information:

  • For Commercial Drivers: If you hold a commercial class (A, B, C, D, E, or F) driver’s licence, you’ll still need to complete the vision and commercial class knowledge tests in-person at a DriveTest centre or through your Driver Certification Program organization.
  • Z Endorsement Holders: Drivers with a Z endorsement should have already received a separate notice detailing these changes.
